PTDI Partners with BIJB to Develop Aerospace Industrial Zone, Supporting Production Capacity Expansion
Central Jakarta (July 15) – As part of its strategic push to expand production capacity, covering the development of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), Aerostructure, and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) clusters and to strengthen synergy in building a national aerospace industrial zone, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) (PTDI) and PT Bandarudara Internasional Jawa Barat (Perseroda) (BIJB) Kertajati signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of the West Side Zone of Kertajati Airport, laying the groundwork for joint development of an aerospace industrial area. The MoU was signed by PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan and BIJB Acting Director Ronald H. Sinaga, witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana, and Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman, at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development in Central Jakarta.
The signing marks the two companies' second strategic collaboration in support of Kertajati Airport's role as a hub for aerospace industry activity. Speaking at the event, AHY said, "Today we're witnessing the signing of an MoU between PTDI and BIJB as part of our shared commitment to developing Kertajati into one of the country's national aerospace industry hubs." AHY noted that the government is not only working to increase flight activity at Kertajati Airport, but is also pushing for the emergence of an integrated aerospace industry ecosystem. "If not us, then who? We have the capability, we have the industry, what's left is figuring out how to create the market. Developed countries have always started by backing their own domestic industries before they were able to compete globally," he added.
The scope of the MoU covers phased development of the west side of Kertajati Airport across the short, medium, and long term. In the initial phase, both parties will focus on optimizing existing facilities, including the runway, to support flight testing for PTDI's product line, covering Fixed Wing, Rotary Wing, and Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) platforms, for both defense and commercial applications. This initiative is part of a broader effort to build an integrated aerospace ecosystem, one where PTDI offers not just products but a full range of services spanning testing, certification, maintenance, after-sales support, and life cycle support, strengthening fleet readiness as one of PTDI's key capabilities in sustaining the aerospace ecosystem.
In remarks from the Head of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), read out by PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan, it was stated: "We firmly believe Kertajati can become home to a robust national aerospace industry. It will house manufacturing, MRO, and aerostructure operations, and this will naturally bring together industry, national government, regional government, and global partners in collaboration."
The development of the Kertajati Airport zone is part of a broader effort to build an integrated aerospace industry ecosystem in Indonesia. It also represents a strategic step for PTDI in ramping up production capacity, in line with its mandate to produce 80 CN235 aircraft and 30 N219 aircraft. The zone is expected to support the commercialization of the N219 while strengthening the readiness of PTDI's production facilities and infrastructure to meet the demands of Indonesia's growing aerospace industry.
Representing the Governor of West Java, Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of West Java Province Sumasna expressed hope that Kertajati would grow beyond being an airport to become a center of national aerospace industry. "We hope Kertajati doesn't stop at being an airport, but grows into one of the country's national aerospace industry centers," he said.
Through this collaboration, PTDI and BIJB are committed to establishing Kertajati as an Integrated Aerospace Hub, one capable of delivering a national aerospace ecosystem that is integrated, innovative, and sustainable. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for strengthening Indonesia's aerospace industry value chain, expanding strategic collaboration, driving the development of national technology and resources, and accelerating the country's path toward globally competitive industrial independence.
